Bulk container stainless steel

Bulk containers Stainless steel has been used as a bulk container in freight containers for liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemicals, beverages and the like. LNG container shipping used to adopt 304L stainless steel containers, the purpose is not for corrosion resistance but taking into account the mechanical properties at low temperatures.

For containers of marine chemicals, the purpose of using stainless steel is mainly due to its corrosion resistance, which is different from the storage and transportation of terrestrial chemicals. If the ship belongs to a general non-scheduled freighter, the container carrying the chemical can also transport anything, from acetic acid to bad xylene.

Generally use 316L stainless steel for valves, cargo pump, pipe by, heating coil and the container itself. The container can be made of solid stainless steel or carbon steel coated with a 0.06 to 0.08 in. (1.5 to 2.0 mm) stainless steel plate. Before use, must be carefully examined whether the plate defects and thorough cleaning and passivation.

Experiments showed that containers filled with chemicals allowed seawater to be washed, but then must be quickly rinsed with fresh water. For any stainless steel heating device in the container, do not start to prevent stress corrosion cracking until the chloride has not completely washed away. Chemical containers should not be designed to contain water because of the danger of crevice corrosion.

If the design proposal is not used to contain the sea, then we must consider the cathodic protection system to control the development of crevice corrosion. In this case, the stainless steel container may produce difficult to remove the lime sediment, which is a problem worthy of attention.
